📄 Abstract（原文）

Cities are a major contributor to global energy demand. accounting for about three-fourths of global energy demand and 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions. India&s;s rapid urbanisation implies that a significant part of its energy demand growth will come from its cities. While cities have traditionally been importers of energy, the 21st century energy transition presents a unique opportunity for them to play an active role in shaping the national energy future. This chapter examines how Indian cities are harnessing these opportunities. By analysing several urban-centric policies and plans, this paper shows how Indian cities are emerging as catalysts for the energy transition. It also identifies the drivers, enablers and barriers faced by Indian cities in pursuing 21st century energy opportunities. Drawing on the analysis, the chapter presents priorities and governance reforms to tap cities&s; significant potential to be frontrunners in the energy transition.
