Manufacturing accounts for ~20% of global GHG emissions, facing tension between mid-century carbon neutrality and economic growth. This review synthesizes literature on electrification, hydrogen metallurgy, CCUS, and circular manufacturing, weighing CapEx against long-term operational resilience. It examines policy shifts like the EU CBAM's full activation and argues that Industry 4.0 and green supply chains can turn decarbonization from compliance burden into a competitive revenue driver.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Abstract The global manufacturing sector stands at a critical State; balancing the mandate for carbon neutrality by mid-century against the core imperative of sustained economic growth. Accounting for nearly 20% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, industrial production is historically coupled with fossil fuel consumption. This review synthesizes a few literatures to evaluate the macroeconomic and microeconomic dynamics of industrial decarbonization. It explores core technological pathways—including industrial electrification, hydrogen-based metallurgy, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), and circular manufacturing frameworks. The study shows the economic trade-offs, evaluating the conflict of capital expenditures (CapEx) and long-term operational resilience. It analyzes shifting global policy frameworks, such as the full activation of the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Finally, it outlines how the intersection of Industry 4.0 and green supply chains transforms decarbonization from a compliance burden into a competitive revenue driver. Keywords: Decarbonization, Carbon Lock-In, Green Growth, Kaya Identity, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)
