English

This study experimentally evaluates concrete in which bamboo leaf ash (BLA) partially replaces Ordinary Portland Cement at 0–20% levels. Workability and compressive strength decline as BLA content rises, but 5% replacement shows only minor strength loss, indicating viability as a cement substitute. The work highlights environmental benefits—lower carbon emissions and construction costs—supporting affordable, sustainable building materials.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

For global disclosure scholarship, this contributes to the embodied-carbon and low-carbon materials discussion relevant to Scope 3 Category 1 purchased goods and green procurement in construction. It offers empirical material-performance data but no LCA or accounting framework, so its link to TCFD/ISSB reporting is indirect.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Bamboo leaf ash (BLA) obtained by burning the leaves of bamboo to ash was used to partially replace Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) in concrete in this work to produce eco-friendly and sustainable concrete. This study explores the engineering properties of concrete produced using bamboo leaf ash and evaluates its feasibility as a sustainable construction material. The work aims to assess the workability of fresh BLA concrete, the compressive strength of the hardened concrete specimens and determine the optimal replacement level for practical use. Concrete samples were prepared with bamboo leaf ash at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% replacement levels. The results showed that as the percentage BLA increases in concrete, the workability of the concrete decreases. The results also indicated a progressive reduction in compressive strength with increasing bamboo leaf ash content with 5% replacement demonstrating a relatively minor reduction in compressive strength, indicating its potential as a viable cement substitute. This study highlights the environmental benefits of utilizing BLA in concrete construction which offers a sustainable alternative to traditional cement, reducing carbon emissions to the atmosphere and reducing the overall cost of construction of building and other civil infrastructures, making them affordable to low-income earners.
