📄 Abstract(原文)
This paper provides an overview of existing policies and industry standards for embodied carbon emissions reduction in the built environment in the UK, and how aspiring project developers to adhere to voluntary industry standards, which is based on whole life carbon approach, is driving project developers to work collaboratively with their supply chain to incorporate low embodied carbon considerations such as design optimisation, considering low carbon substitutes, or optimising construction logistics. Using a practice example, from three UK projects, the paper reports on the influence the whole life carbon information and the standard’s requirements has on all the future projects the developer has planned. The paper also discusses practical challenges encountered in calculating carbon emissions due to credibility and inconsistent data availability on construction materials and products, globally. The paper concludes that while the voluntary standard can positively influence projects, achieving scalable impact to meet net zero targets requires stricter regulations and workable policies, and is relevant to all geographies. For the policies and regulations to succeed though, a systems approach to create, share and use construction materials and construction products data across the global supply chain is needed to limit current frustrations around data and time consuming methods that practitioners in the building design and construction industry face.
