English
Using 1996–2024 time-series data and an ARDL bounds approach, this study examines how globalisation and institutional quality shape Nigeria's renewable energy transition. Currency depreciation significantly hampers the transition by raising imported technology costs, while globalisation, institutional quality, and growth are statistically insignificant. It recommends stronger institutions, exchange-rate stability, and technology transfer.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This study investigates the role of globalisation and institutional quality in driving Nigeria's renewable energy transition. The study employed time-series data spanning 1996 to 2024 to analyse the dynamics among the variables in both the short run and the long run. The bounds test results establish a long-run relationship among the variables. The short-run results show that the exchange rate has a negative and statistically significant effect on the renewable energy transition. This indicates that currency depreciation increases the cost of imported renewable energy technologies and affects investment in the energy sector. In contrast, globalisation, institutional quality, economic growth, and the interaction term between globalisation and institutional quality have statistically insignificant effects on the renewable energy transition in both the short and long run. These findings suggest that, despite the weak performance of globalisation and institutional quality, they remain important drivers of sustainable development. This study recommends strengthening institutional quality and macroeconomic stability through regulatory quality, effective exchange rate management, and consistent implementation of renewable energy policies, and stimulating technology transfer, energy investment, and Nigeria's transition to a sustainable energy future. Key Words: Globalisation, Institutional quality, Renewable energy transition, Exchange rate, Economic growth
