Grid carbon intensity and Google's carbon-free energy percentage for all 44Google Cloud regions, 2024 — from 3 g CO2e/kWh in Stockholm (europe-north2) to679 in Mumbai (asia-south1), a 226-fold spread across the estate. Two distinct metrics per region, answering different questions. Grid carbonintensity describes the electricity grid the data centre sits on, whoever isbuying from it, and is the figure used for location-based Scope 2. CFE% describeshow much of Google's own hourly consumption in that region was matched withcarbon-free generation — a statement about Google's procurement, not about thepurchaser's contractual position. The two can diverge sharply: us-central1 sitson a 413 g CO2e/kWh grid yet reports 87% carbon-free energy. Also carries Google's "Low CO2" qualifier, applied where CFE% is at least 75% orgrid intensity is 200 g CO2e/kWh or lower; 17 of the 44 regions qualify. Grid intensity is an annual average derived from hourly Electricity Maps data andis explicitly NOT third-party assured.
