English
This study develops a supply chain-based emissions accounting framework integrating upstream and downstream emissions. Using GLORIA data, it identifies China, US, India, Russia, and Japan as top emitters. Developed countries show rising downstream emissions, while emerging economies increase upstream emissions, especially in electrical and machinery sectors. It advocates mandatory disclosure of trading partners' emissions to promote low-carbon supply chains.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
This paper contributes to global Scope 3 accounting by proposing a comprehensive supply chain framework. It highlights the shift in emissions across developed and emerging economies, informing ISSB-aligned disclosure policies and supply chain decarbonization strategies.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Existing Scope 3 emissions accounting methods typically consider emissions from either the upstream or downstream sectors. This study develops a supply chain-based emissions accounting framework to quantify emissions across the entire supply chain, that is, upstream and downstream emissions. Using the GLORIA multi-regional database, the study identifies major emitters-China, the U.S., India, Russia, and Japan-as having the highest supply chain emissions. A shift toward higher downstream emissions is noted in developed countries, while emerging economies have increased upstream emissions, particularly in electrical and machinery sectors between 2000 and 2019. Emissions shares vary across developed and BRICS countries, highlighting the need for targeted policies. To promote low-carbon supply chains, the study advocates for mandatory disclosure of emissions from trading partners' industries, encouraging environmentally responsible sourcing.
