English

This review explores how agentic AI and data-driven advisory systems can optimise nitrogen use efficiency and enable accurate MRV of soil carbon gains in rice straw-incorporated paddy systems. By combining AI-based precision nitrogen management with digital carbon accounting, farmers can access emerging carbon markets and economic incentives. Focused on Indian rice ecosystems, it links food security, climate resilience, and SDGs 2, 12, and 13.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As agricultural soil carbon and rice paddy methane become part of voluntary and compliance carbon markets (Verra, Gold Standard, Article 6), AI-driven MRV addresses the sector's core credibility gap. This adds to global disclosure scholarship on Scope 3 agriculture and nature-based carbon accounting under ISSB/CSRD.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Rice straw incorporation is a climate-smart practice that is gaining attention in India. It helps increase soil organic carbon, improves soil health and reduces residue burning. However, proper nutrient management is necessary to manage nitrogen immobilization. Straw decomposition affects nitrogen availability in the soil, so efficient fertilizer management is crucial to maintain productivity, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), and farmer profitability. The rapid growth of digital agriculture allows agentic artificial intelligence (AI) to support efficient nutrient management in paddy fields where straw is incorporated into the soil. This review explains how agentic AI and data-driven advisory systems can help optimize NUE while ensuring accurate Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) of soil carbon gains. With the help of AI-based nitrogen precision and digital carbon accounting, farmers can benefit from the developing carbon markets and associated economic incentives. By focusing on the rice ecosystems in the Indian context, this approach can help ensure food security and climate resilience and can be linked with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 12, and 13 while enhancing the sustainability and profitability of Indian paddy farmers.
