📄 Abstract(原文)

Pastoral communities are highly vulnerable to climate change because their livelihoods depend heavily on livestock, pasture, and water resources. Pastoralists' perceptions of climatic risks influence their ability to adopt mitigation strategies to enhance their resilience. This paper assesses climate change parameters perceived by pastoralists and sociodemographic factors influencing their perception in Mahaday District, Somalia. A descriptive research design was employed, using semi-structured questionnaires administered to 395 pastoralist household heads selected through stratified random sampling from Buurane, Buurfuule, and Qurac-madoobe villages. Data were collected using a five-point Likert scale and analysed using descriptive statistics, mean scores, ranking, and Spearman’s correlation analysed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 26. The results show that increased drought occurrence was the most frequently observed climate change parameter (45.1%), followed by decreased precipitation (36.7%), rising temperatures (35.9%), and increased flooding (7.6%). Overall, the perceived impacts of climate change on pastoral livelihoods were moderate. Decline in livestock pasture recorded the highest mean impact score (3.43), followed by increased disease outbreaks (3.34) and decreased income from livestock sales (3.31). Spearman correlation show that a negative but significant relationship exists between perceived impact and age (ρ= -0.136, p=0.007), gender (ρ= -0.129, p=0.011), and marital status (ρ= -0.117, p=0.02), while education (ρ= -0.017, p=0.73) has a negative relationship and family size (ρ= 0.008, p=0.88) has a positive but insignificant relationship with the perceived impact. This paper shows that climate change has a significant impact on pastoral livelihoods, and therefore, the state and non-state actors should strengthen climate change mitigation strategies and programmes for resilient pastoralist livelihoods.
