📄 Abstract(原文)
The current high-speed global transition to renewable energy sources has brought considerable variability and uncertainty to power systems and requires an increased degree of flexibility to maintain steady and reliable grid operation. A new development is the energy storage systems (ESS) as an important solution to reduce the time and space disparities between the supply and demand of electricity. This chapter gives an in-depth analysis of the different energy storage technologies—such as mechanical, electrochemical, thermal, and chemical storage systems—as well as comparing them in terms of increasing grid flexibility. Important technical parameters, performance parameters, and uses in contemporary power systems are addressed. The contribution of ESS to the integration of renewable energy, load management, grid stability, and postponing the upgrade of infrastructure is also discussed in the chapter. There are real-world case studies and global trends to show successful deployments and policy frameworks. The chapter also covers the current issues of cost, regulation, maturity of technological advancement, and environmental issues, and indicates the future developments and innovations in research. Energy storage will become more central to the construction of a smarter, more resilient, and more flexible grid, as power systems get decarbonized, and become more decentralized.
