📄 Abstract(原文)
The large-scale integration of electric vehicles could provide substantial flexibility for balancing renewable energy in microgrids, yet this potential remains largely constrained by uncoordinated charging. Here, we show that on-board chargers can be transformed into intelligent agents to unlock this flexibility through distributed vehicle-grid coordination. To enable such coordination under practical hardware constraints, we develop a distributed framework that embeds edge intelligence into resource-constrained chargers for autonomous charging optimization. Validated on a high-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop platform capturing microgrid cyber-physical dynamics, experimental results demonstrate that our framework reduces memory consumption by 96.1% and communication overhead by 74.3% compared to the traditional distributed coordination scheme. Moreover, unlocking this hardware-level flexibility achieves a 10.8% profit increase over the current uncoordinated situation. Importantly, the proposed framework promises profound economic, environmental, and social benefits for the future energy landscape from 2025 to 2040. Uncoordinated electric vehicle charging strains microgrids, yet advanced control exceeds charger hardware limits. Here, the authors develop a lightweight on-charger coordination framework that unlocks vehicle flexibility with low memory and communication needs.
