English

Using HOMER, this study conducts a life-cycle economic evaluation of a diesel-based hybrid microgrid, comparing a high-capex/low-opex strategy (Case A) with a low-capex/high-opex strategy (Case B). Under normal conditions Case A has clearly lower net present cost, but incorporating fuel-price and carbon-price uncertainty reveals an investment turning point where high fuel prices and strong carbon-cost pressure shift the optimal choice to Case B. The turning-point analysis offers a reference for long-term investment planning and risk management under energy-price volatility and carbon-policy risk.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As carbon pricing expands under EU ETS and emerging Asian schemes, this paper quantifies how carbon-cost uncertainty flips microgrid investment choices—relevant to transition-finance and internal carbon pricing discussions in global disclosure and capital-allocation practice.

📄 Abstract(原文)

With the promotion of power grid stability and sustainable energy transition, investors in microgrid system planning often face a choice between two investment strategies: high initial investment with low maintenance cost (Case A), and low initial investment with high maintenance cost (Case B). This study focuses on a diesel-based hybrid microgrid system and uses the HOMER software to conduct a life-cycle economic evaluation. The cost performance of the two investment strategies is systematically compared under different economic conditions. The results show that, under normal conditions, Case A has a clearly lower net present cost than Case B. However, when fuel price and carbon price uncertainties are included in the sensitivity analysis, a clear investment turning point is observed. Under conditions of high fuel prices and strong carbon cost pressure, the optimal investment strategy shifts from Case A to Case B. The proposed investment turning point analysis can serve as an important reference for long-term investment planning and risk management when companies face energy price fluctuations and carbon policy risks.
