English

A fire-resilient radiative-cooling rigid polyurethane foam is engineered by integrating interfacially designed t-TiO2@SA-Co nanohybrids into the foam skeleton while preserving its cellular structure. Solar reflectance rises from 68.5% to 83.4% with 96.9% atmospheric-window emissivity, yielding up to 13.1°C outdoor cooling, while peak heat release, total heat release and smoke drop by 49.8%, 35.6% and 65.4%. Compressive strength improves from 352 to 420 kPa, and EnergyPlus simulations link the material to lower cooling-energy demand and operational CO2 emissions.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Building decarbonization is central to global net-zero pathways and increasingly covered under CSRD/ISSB building-sector disclosures, where material-level efficiency gains feed into Scope 1/2 accounting. This paper offers a materials-science route to lower operational emissions, though it does not itself engage disclosure frameworks.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Conventional rigid polyurethane foam (RPUF) is widely used for building insulation, yet its porous organic framework is vulnerable to solar heat accumulation, fire hazards, smoke release, and limited outdoor service durability. Here, a fire-resilient radiative-cooling polyurethane insulation foam is developed through microcellular–nanodomain engineering, in which interfacially engineered t-TiO 2 @SA-Co nanohybrids are structure-preservingly integrated within an RPUF matrix. The optimized RPUF/APP/t-TiO 2 @SA-Co preserves the intrinsic cellular framework while anchoring TiO 2 -based nanodomains within the foam skeleton and cell-wall regions, enabling coupled solar backscattering, atmospheric-window thermal emission, interfacial reinforcement, and condensed-phase fire protection. The optimized foam increases solar reflectance from 68.5% to 83.4% while maintaining a high atmospheric-window emissivity of 96.9%, enabling a maximum outdoor cooling difference of 13.1 °C. It simultaneously reduces peak heat release rate, total heat release, and total smoke release by 49.8%, 35.6%, and 65.4%, respectively, relative to pristine RPUF. TG–IR and char analyses indicate lower relative evolved-gas signals together with formation of a compact phosphorus-rich, inorganic-reinforced barrier. The foam further improves compressive strength from 352 to 420 kPa, while maintaining high antibacterial activity and exhibiting improved appearance stability after up to 50 h of solar exposure. EnergyPlus simulations connect the material-level cooling response with reduced cooling-energy demand and operational CO 2 emissions, providing a scalable route toward fire-safer and energy-efficient polymeric insulation foams.
