ForestNavigator: Unlocking the EU forests’ potential to counteract climate change The ForestNavigator consortium provides forest data and pathways to support forest policy towards EU climate neutrality. Forests are central to achieving the European Union’s (EU) 2030 climate targets and its 2050 climate-neutrality goal. They remove carbon from the atmosphere, provide renewable materials, support biodiversity, and deliver essential ecosystem services. However, forests are increasingly affected by climate change, including droughts, pests, windstorms and wildfires. Policymakers must, therefore, balance multiple, sometimes competing objectives: enhancing carbon sinks, maintaining forest productivity, protecting biodiversity, and supporting the bioeconomy.
