This chapter examines Finland’s current energy system, greenhouse gas emissions, and Finland’s shift toward a low-emission model. It highlights the roles of various stakeholders in the energy sector and the development of energy affordability and accessibility, with a particular focus on electricity. This chapter discusses technological and political aspect of energy security. Additionally, it underscores Finland’s ambitious goal to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2035, detailing policies that leverage both human and financial resources to support the green transition. Finland’s energy sector governance model offers a flexible approach to managing energy transition. However, greater emphasis on fiscal policies, such as green taxation, is essential to sustain investment in renewable energy. Finally, this chapter discusses new and expected technologies changing the energy sector and achieving climate change mitigation. It also highlights that prioritizing education and workforce development is crucial to addressing the needs of an increasingly dynamic energy sector.
