In the global GX context

Adds to the global evidence base on hybridizing FPV with existing hydropower, relevant to renewable buildout and land-use constraints under net-zero pathways. The open dataset supports reproducibility for cross-country comparisons.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Description This dataset accompanies the research article entitled “GIS-Based Techno-Economic Assessment and Prioritization of Floating Photovoltaics on Hydropower Reservoirs in Türkiye: Energy Generation and Water Conservation.” The study presents a nationwide geographic information system (GIS)-based assessment of floating photovoltaic (FPV) deployment potential across 108 hydropower reservoirs in Türkiye. It integrates reservoir characteristics, spatial solar energy resources, evaporation estimates, techno-economic parameters, and multi-criteria decision-making to evaluate the potential contribution of FPV systems to renewable electricity generation and water conservation. The analysis considers four reservoir surface-coverage scenarios ranging from 5% to 20%. At 5% coverage, the estimated nationwide FPV capacity reaches 16.29 GWp, with an annual electricity generation potential of 25.76 TWh. Estimated annual water savings range from 71.34 to 144.48 hm³, depending on the floating system configuration. The techno-economic assessment incorporates investment and operating costs, levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), net present value (NPV), and electricity selling-price scenarios. Economic and infrastructure-scale screening identifies 51 candidate reservoirs, representing 4.24 GWp of FPV capacity and 6.84 TWh of annual electricity generation. Multi-criteria prioritization identifies Karakaya, Ilısu, and Ermenek among the leading candidates. The associated research materials are intended to support transparency, reproducibility, and further investigations into the integration of floating solar photovoltaics with existing hydropower infrastructure. Keywords: Floating photovoltaics; Hydropower reservoirs; Geographic information systems; Renewable energy; Water conservation; Techno-economic assessment; Türkiye.
