English

This paper compares Xiaomi and Huawei as asset-light tech firms across six dimensions: clean energy, digital carbon management, green R&D, low-carbon supply chains, recycling, and ESG disclosure. It identifies data-driven value extraction, AI application, standardized disclosure, and coordinated public-private green policy as four key enablers of low-carbon transition, proposing hierarchical pathways at enterprise, industry, and government levels.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

This study offers a rare benchmarking of asset-light technology firms' decarbonization, a segment often overlooked in favor of heavy industry. For global disclosure scholarship, it highlights how Chinese tech giants integrate AI-driven carbon management and ESG reporting, providing comparative insights for ISSB/CSRD implementation in the electronics sector and informing supply-chain decarbonization strategies under evolving green trade rules.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The dual-carbon goals and evolving green trade rules at home and abroad have compelled the consumer electronics and digital energy sectors to adopt whole-life-cycle carbon management. However, existing studies focus heavily on energy-intensive heavy industries, with a lack of benchmarking analysis and unified theoretical frameworks for asset-light technology enterprises. This paper selects Xiaomi and Huawei as comparative cases and compares their practices across six dimensions: clean energy deployment, digital carbon management, green technology R&D, low-carbon supply chains, recycling and recovery, and public ESG disclosure. It sorts out common industrial transformation challenges and respective shortcomings of the two enterprises, and designs hierarchically-adapted transformation paths from enterprise, industry and government dimensions. The study finds that data-driven value extraction, AI application, standardized environmental disclosure, and coordinated public-private green policies constitute the four key enablers of low-carbon development for technology enterprises. Accordingly, enterprises should align carbon management and green R&D with their core business models; industry-level efforts should focus on establishing green technology alliances and harmonizing carbon accounting standards; and governments should introduce differentiated fiscal, tax, and financial incentives tailored to specific industries.
