English

Proposes using low-grade reject heat from fossil power plants to sterilize and preserve wet biomass waste, halting decay. One barrel-equivalent of fuel could sterilize six tonnes of biomass, holding back 5.5 tonnes of CO2 against 0.43 tonnes emitted—a 13:1 ratio, higher with landfill methane reduction. The plant keeps selling power while storing more carbon than it emits. A pilot trial and funder are needed.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

As global disclosure frameworks (TCFD/ISSB) push for credible transition plans, this concept offers a novel pathway for fossil assets to achieve carbon negativity, potentially reframing stranded asset debates and transition finance criteria.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Our concept paper proposes using low-grade reject heat from fossil power plants to halt decay in wet biomass waste through sterilization and preservation. One barrel-equivalent of fuel could sterilize six tonnes of biomass waste, holding back 5.5 tonnes of CO₂ from decay against the 0.43 tonnes emitted: about a 13:1 ratio, and higher where landfill methane is reduced. The plant keeps selling power, and more carbon stays put than is emitted. The concept needs a pilot trial, and a funder willing to offend both sides of the fossil debate. The paper acknowledges the substantial infrastructure investment the concept requires, notes that nuclear power is its most likely low-carbon competitor for similar capital, and briefly addresses the developing dual threat of carbon loading and nuclear gentrification.
