Fabric is the most important and major raw material for fashion and apparel industry, and in normal circumstances, it contributes about 60-70% of garment cost so the concept of sustainability in fashion and apparel is not possible without discussing the sustainability practices in fabric manufacturing. It is important to mention that in the entire fashion supply chain from “fiber to consumer”, textile manufacturing is contributing more than 70% share in carbon emission hence practicing sustainability in textile manufacturing is the most important issue and need of the hour in the Fashion and apparel industry. This chapter emphasizes the environmental effects of textiles in detail and contributes to cleaner production and sustainability in the textile industry by initiating a discussion on the opportunities for change in textile processes in accordance with the law. This chapter also discuss about compilation of scientific, technical, economical, and environmental data of the various processes used in fabric manufacturing and presents different aspects of the sustainable development of textiles.
