Using ARDL on Ethiopia's 2010–2023 data, this study finds a stable long-run link between climate finance and CO₂ emissions: a 1% rise in climate finance cuts emissions by ~0.28%. Short-run effects are weaker due to implementation lags, with a 45% annual adjustment speed. It underscores the need for predictable multi-year climate finance.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This study examines the dynamic relationship between climate finance and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in Ethiopia over the period 2010–2023 using a time-series econometric framework. The analysis employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach, supported by unit root testing and diagnostic evaluation, to distinguish short-run dynamics from long-run equilibrium effects. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller test confirms that both series are integrated of orders one, validating the application of the ARDL methodology. Empirical results establish a stable long-run relationship between climate finance and CO₂ emissions. The estimated long-run elasticity indicates that a 1% increase in climate finance is associated with a 0.28% reduction in CO₂ emissions. Short-run effects are smaller in magnitude and occasionally statistically weak, consistent with implementation lags inherent in climate-related investment projects. The error-correction term is negative and significant, with an estimated speed of adjustment of approximately 45% per year, indicating moderate convergence toward long-run equilibrium following short-term deviations. Diagnostic tests confirm that the model satisfies key econometric assumptions, including the absence of serial correlation and heteroskedasticity, and the presence of normally distributed residuals. Overall, the findings demonstrate that sustained and efficiently allocated climate finance contributes meaningfully to long-term emission mitigation in Ethiopia, while immediate impacts remain limited. These results underscore the importance of predictable, multi-year climate financing mechanisms for achieving durable environmental outcomes.
