This presentation examines how the global energy transition reshapes the distribution of economic and technological power, framed by US-China multipolar rivalry and the fourth industrial revolution. It argues electrification is a geopolitical process driven by industrial policies (IRA, CHIPS Act, Made in China 2025), green tech competition, and critical minerals and battery supply chains. Focusing on the electric and hybrid vehicle value chain, it analyzes China's positioning in Latin America and Brazil, questioning whether a new international division of labor is emerging where Brazil remains a primary resource supplier while China, the US, and the EU control the most profitable technologies.

📄 Abstract(原文)
English The Geoeconomic Context of Electrification. This presentation examines how the global energy transition is reshaping the distribution of economic and technological power. Framed by US–China multipolar rivalry and the fourth industrial revolution, it shows how electrification is not merely a technical process but a geopolitical one, driven by industrial policies (IRA, CHIPS Act, Made in China 2025), the race for green technologies, and the strategic role of critical minerals and battery supply chains. Focusing on the electric and hybrid vehicle value chain, it analyzes China's positioning in Latin America and Brazil and asks whether the geoeconomics of electrification is producing a new international division of labor, one in which Brazil remains a primary resource supplier while China, the US, and the EU control the most profitable technologies. Presented at the Graduate Opening Week, FGV Direito São Paulo, 27 Feb 2025.
