English

A case study of PT. XYZ's central water treatment plant analyzing how seasonal changes affect raw water quality, TSS removal efficiency, and operational carbon footprint. Dry-season deterioration in color, turbidity, and TSS raised coagulant consumption; TSS removal reached 97.2%. GHG Protocol-based emissions totaled 20.22 t-CO2eq, with Scope 2 electricity dominating at 52.27%, highlighting energy and chemical optimization as key decarbonization levers.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Water Treatment Plants (WTP) play an important role in supplying clean water for industrial utility and process requirements. This study aimed to analyze the effect of seasonal changes on raw water quality, evaluate Total Suspended Solid (TSS) removal efficiency, and calculate the operational carbon footprint of the Central Water Treatment Plant at PT. XYZ. The study was conducted through field observation, water quality analysis, evaluation of chemical consumption, and emission calculations based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The results showed that during the dry season, the parameters of color, turbidity, and TSS increased, resulting in higher coagulant and flocculant consumption compared to the rainy season. The Water Treatment Plant demonstrated good treatment performance with a TSS removal efficiency of 97.2% and an average TSS removal of 848.49 tons/month. Carbon footprint analysis indicated total emissions of 20.22 tons CO2-eq, with the largest contribution originating from electricity consumption in scope 2 emissions at 52.27%. The study indicates that raw water quality affects energy consumption, chemical usage, and operational carbon emissions of the Water Treatment Plant. Optimization of energy and chemical consumption is required to improve operational efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
