📄 Abstract(原文)
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and mitigating the harmful consequences of climate change in the aviation industry requires the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) to achieve a carbon-neutral aviation sector. Electrochemical processes that make use of renewable electricity to convert carbon feedstocks into hydrocarbon fuels are required to produce SAFs. These include green H2 from electrolyzers powered by renewable energy sources and the power-to-liquid (PTL) process, which creates aviation fuel from carbon sources such as direct air-captured carbon or industrial point-source waste gases. Even though the PTL pathways are based on technically sound procedures, the process is not yet economical and needs more technological development before it can be fully commercialized. In this chapter, we discuss various electrochemical processes involved in the production of SAFs. First, we discuss renewable electricity as a primary energy input for SAF production. Second, various electrochemical reactions used to produce SAFs, including direct water and CO2 electrolysis, reverse water–gas shift (rWGS), and co-electrolysis of CO2 electroreduction, are discussed. Finally, the challenges, techno-economic aspects of transitioning from fossil jet fuels to sustainable electrofuels, as well as the outlook for advancing research in this field, are highlighted.
