The Carbon Handshake Architecture is a conceptual design-science framework for smallholder carbon finance in India. It addresses the institutional and transaction gap between verified climate-positive agricultural activity and transparent, timely and fairly shared farmer income. The research treats the complete smallholder carbon-finance transaction as the unit of analysis: informed consent and plot enrolment; transition finance and practice adoption; hybrid digital MRV and evidence assembly; independent verification; registry issuance and market sale; rule-based value allocation and direct beneficiary settlement; and post-settlement audit, grievance and reversal control. Four linked constructs are formalised: the Golden Suture, Digital Spine, 1:10 Multiplier and 80:20 Rule. Supporting mechanisms include an Interoperable Ledger, Farmer Producer Organisation or accredited-aggregator functions, direct settlement, a defined payout service-level agreement, safeguards and stage-gated pilots.
