English

This paper analyzes the evolution of Chinese academic discourse on Russia-China energy cooperation against geopolitical turbulence and the global energy transition. Based on a content analysis and systematic review of 263 CNKI publications (2000-2025), it identifies three research stages, four analytical perspectives (trade-economic, politico-strategic, institutional-legal, engineering-technological), and three structural constraints: dual logic of politics and markets, strategic trust deficit, and regulatory-technological double deficit. The Chinese academic community maintains 'strategic optimism with tactical caution.' Deeper cooperation requires normative strengthening, dispute resolution mechanisms, and joint green innovation.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This article analyses the evolution of the Chinese academic discourse regarding Russia-China energy cooperation against the backdrop of geopolitical turbulence and the global energy transition. Based on a content analysis and systematic review of 263 publications indexed in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2000 to 2025, the study identifies three distinct stages in the research agenda and four dominant analytical perspectives: trade-economic, politico-strategic, institutional-legal, and engineering-technological. The findings indicate that research interest is predominantly event-driven, with major international crises and shifts in climate policy dictating thematic “peaks” and redefining argumentative structures. The central conclusion is that the Chinese academic community generally maintains a posture of “strategic optimism coupled with tactical caution”. Simultaneously, the discourse identifies three structural constraints hindering deeper cooperation: the dual logic of politics and markets, a defi cit in strategic mutual trust, and a “double defi cit” of regulatory frameworks and technological competencies. The study concludes that the further advancement of bilateral interaction depends on a transition toward deeper integration and institutionalisation achieved through the strengthening of the normative base, the development of dispute resolution mechanisms, and joint technological innovation within the context of the “green” transformation.
