📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Globally, CCUS is central to net-zero pathways and hard-to-abate sector decarbonization under frameworks like ISSB and CSRD, which increasingly require disclosure of transition technologies. This review contributes to the materials science underpinning scalable carbon capture and utilization, informing how companies can substantiate CCU claims in climate disclosure.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The continuous increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions has intensified the need for efficient carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technologies. Biochar has emerged as a promising, cost-effective, and sustainable platform for CCU. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the rational design of biochar for CO2 capture and subsequent catalytic conversion. We first discuss various synthesis methods and activation strategies for tailoring the physicochemical properties of biochar. We then elucidate the mechanisms of CO2 capture, highlighting the roles of pore modification and heteroatom functionalities in enhancing both physisorption and chemisorption. Furthermore, the roles of biochar in thermocatalytic, electrocatalytic, and photocatalytic CO2 conversion are critically examined, with particular emphasis on its function as a multifunctional support for metal nanoparticles, molecular catalysts, single atoms, and nanoclusters. Finally, we outline key challenges and future directions for the rational development of next-generation biochar toward practical carbon-neutral technologies. Accordingly, this review establishes a rational design framework based on application demand, key performance parameters, and targeted synthesis strategies, thereby linking practical CCU requirements with the controlled engineering of biochar porosity, surface chemistry, conductivity, and catalytic functionality.
