📄 Abstract(原文)
In recent years, increasingly ambitious environmental policies have been implemented across the European and Spanish contexts. In the short term, companies, organisations, and large-event organisers will be required to report certain impacts of their economic activities beyond the direct control of their operations. This focus on the value chain aims, among other objectives, to account for the carbon footprint associated with these activities. International standards provide clear guidance for emissions generated under the direct control of organisations. Yet, they fail to establish standardised methods for calculating emissions across the value chain, leaving, according to the literature, a significant volume of emissions unaccounted for. This chapter seeks to address this gap in the standardisation of Scope 3 emissions estimation by introducing a tiered hybrid model that, through a structured and sequential approach, enables companies and consulting firms to calculate these emissions using scientifically validated and tested methodologies. Moreover, the chapter presents a real case study of the carbon footprint of an academic event, testing the approach. This guide advances carbon footprint standardisation by integrating overlooked Scope 3 emissions into sustainability assessments through transparent, comparable methodologies, thereby enhancing credibility and accountability in corporate climate reporting and supporting the shift toward low-carbon business models aligned with global decarbonisation goals.
