English
This study examines drivers of green roof adoption in Ghanaian residential buildings through a Diffusion of Innovations lens. Surveying 215 homeowners and building professionals, it finds energy savings and reduced utility costs are the strongest perceived benefits, while aesthetic value is the leading adoption motivator. It recommends combining visible aesthetics, energy-saving evidence, financial incentives, demonstration projects, and professional capacity-building.

In the global GX context
While green roofs intersect with urban climate adaptation and building energy performance, this paper sits outside the core TCFD/ISSB/CSRD disclosure agenda. It contributes to the global scholarship on adoption mechanisms for climate-adaptive building technologies in emerging economies, offering a diffusion-theory framing that disclosure-focused research rarely addresses.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Purpose: This paper examines the drivers of green roof adoption in Ghanaian residential buildings. Design/Methodology/Approach: A purposive sampling approach was adopted to select 215 homeowners, occupants, architects, engineers, contractors and developers. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire designed to capture the key variables relevant to green roof adoption. Data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, mean scores, standard deviations and ranking analysis. Research Limitation: The study is based on stakeholder perceptions in a single Ghanaian city and does not measure the physical performance of green roofs. Future research should combine survey evidence with pilot projects, lifecycle costing and inferential modelling. Findings: Energy savings and reduced utility costs were the strongest perceived benefit, followed by economic benefits, climate change mitigation, acoustic insulation, social and psychological benefits, biodiversity and general environmental benefits. Aesthetic value was the leading motivator for adoption, followed by environmental benefits, energy savings, and government incentives. Willingness to install, adopt in future projects and recommend adoption was moderate but promising. Practical Implication: Green roof promotion should combine visible aesthetic appeal, evidence of energy savings, environmental messaging, financial incentives, demonstration projects, and professional capacity-building. Social Implication: Incorporating green roof provisions into urban greening strategies, climate adaptation plans and sustainable building policies would help move green roofs from isolated voluntary initiatives to a more recognised component of sustainable residential development. Originality/value: It shows that these benefits operate through identifiable diffusion mechanisms relative advantage, compatibility, and observability that actively facilitate adoption.
