A novel low-carbon magnesium oxysulfate cement (MOSC) fire-resistant board was developed by preparing magnesium sulfate from brucite and dilute sulfuric acid instead of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate. The boards showed higher flexural strength (max 3.42 MPa) and lower thermal conductivity (min 1.067 W/(m·K)). Micro-analysis revealed hydration products decompose to MgO during combustion, enlarging pores and increasing porosity.

📄 Abstract(原文)
The conventional magnesium oxysulfate cement (MOSC) fire-resistant board is composed of light-burned magnesium oxide, magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, lightweight admixtures, and glass fiber mesh fabric, and exhibits significant carbon dioxide emissions during the production. This study prepared magnesium sulfate using brucite and dilute sulfuric acid as a substitute for magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, developing a novel low carbon MOSC fire-resistant board designed to reduce its carbon emission. The board's flexural strength, thermal conductivity, and combustion performance were evaluated. The experimental results demonstrated that the low carbon MOSC fire-resistant boards exhibited higher flexural strength with a maximum strength of 3.42 MPa. The thermal conductivity values of the low carbon MOSC fire-resistant boards were lower with a minimum value of 1.067 W/(m·K). In addition, the micro testing analysis revealed significant changes in the pore structure of the MOSC fire-resistant boards during the combustion process. The primary hydration products-5·1·7 crystalline phase, 3·1·8 crystalline phase, and Mg(OH)₂-all decomposed under combustion, forming the main product MgO, which altered both the material composition and pore structure evolution of the boards. At high temperatures, the fire-resistant board underwent a transition from dehydration to structural loosening, ultimately resulting in enlarged pore sizes and increased porosity.
