English

Dairy cattle production contributes approximately 1.5% of US GHG emissions, mainly from enteric fermentation, manure management, feed production, and on-farm energy use. Mitigation could reduce emissions per unit of milk by up to 45%, but requires holistic consideration of health, safety, social acceptance, practicality, evidence strength, and profitability.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions arise from dairy cattle production. Estimates for the contribution of dairy to GHG emissions vary, but are approximately 1.5% of US GHG emissions. The main sources of GHG emissions from dairy cattle production are enteric fermentation, manure management, feed production and on-farm energy use. Mitigation of GHG emissions is possible, with some estimating it’s plausible that U.S. dairy farms could mitigate up to 45% of their emissions per unit of milk produced. However, mitigation should also take a holistic approach considering the health and safety implications of strategies, their social acceptance, practicality, the strength of evidence supporting them, and their profitability impacts.
