English
First GHG inventory of an SPM terminal, applying ISO 14064-1:2018 across Scope 1 (MSV combustion/fugitive), Scope 2 (onshore electricity), and Scope 3 (embedded carbon in mooring/hose structures) using 12 months of operational data. MSV operations dominate at ~93.5% of total emissions, with Scope 3 at 5.4% and Scope 2 at 1.1%; hose assemblies are the largest Scope 3 component despite lower weight due to short replacement intervals and carbon-intensive composition. The study also proposes a prioritised decarbonisation roadmap for the terminal.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
Provides a replicable Scope 1-3 accounting template for port and terminal infrastructure, relevant to ISSB/CSRD value-chain disclosure where operational and embedded-carbon boundaries are contested. The finding that consumable hose assemblies outweigh heavier structural components in Scope 3 challenges weight-based estimation heuristics.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This study conducts the first GHG inventory analysis of an SPM facility, which is used to handle crude unloading operation for the production requirement. Twelve months of operational data were collected, and emissions under Scope 1 (combustion and fugitive losses of MSVs), Scope 2 (onshore electricity) and Scope 3 (embedded carbon in mooring and hose structures) of the ISO 14064-1:2018 accounting standard have been calculated accordingly. Analysis shows that emissions from MSVs’ operations predominate at the studied terminal, comprising roughly 93.5% of total inventory, while Scope 3 embedded carbon accounts for 5.4%, and Scope 2 electricity emissions for 1.1%. Hose assemblies were found to be the major component within Scope 3, emitting more than structural buoy body itself despite being lighter in weight due to the shorter replacement intervals and more carbon-intensive composition. Combustion and material emission factors are taken from various sources like IOGP, IPCC AR6, IEA etc. It also investigates various steel Environmental Product Declarations in order to maintain more generalized results. This study provides an optimised roadmap for decarbonising the SPM Facility and the terminal, including the prioritisation of several measures. This is the first of a kind study of GHG baseline and reduction framework for an operational SPM terminal, which helps in analysing various SPM terminals regarding their carbon emissions and plan accordingly to reduce emissions.
