Sri Lanka stands at a critical juncture, seeking a pathway to economic recovery while ensuring environmental sustainability and building resilience to severe climate change impacts. This necessitates a transition to a greener economy to overcome the country’s energy insecurity, ecological stress, and high climate vulnerability (Dissanayake et al., 2021; Gunatilleke, 2015; Jayaweera et al., 2012). A green economy is characterized by low carbon emissions and resource efficiency, offering a transformative pathway for economic development. It is intrinsically linked to green job creation, as both represent essential components of sustainable development strategies that address environmental challenges while promoting economic growth.
