This paper compares the carbon footprint of agricultural tractors using test results from machine testing stations. It analyzes CO2 equivalent values for domestic Russian and foreign tractors, finding that MTZ and Deutz-Fahr have the smallest footprint while Claas, Fendt, and John Deere have the largest. Gas-engine fuel shows promise for reduction.

📄 Abstract(原文)
One of the sources of the carbon footprint in agriculture is the combustion products of fuel when using tractors and other mobile agricultural machinery. They account for 20 to 30 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions related to the agricultural sector. Harmful emissions not only pollute the atmosphere, but also settle in the soil, which affects the composition and quality of the food obtained. Assessment and management of carbon emissions of tractors and other mobile equipment is an important task not only for the country, but also for a single agricultural enterprise. (Research purpose) The research purpose is a comparative assessment of the carbon footprint of agricultural tractors based on the results of tests at machine testing stations. (Materials and methods) Used for the analysis and evaluation of the carbon footprint of tractors the test results of machine-tractor units at machine testing stations and the obtained fuel consumption values when performing various technological operations in the cultivation of crops. (Results and discussion) The values of the CO2 equivalent of the carbon footprint of tractors of the K-700 and MTZ-80 types were obtained when aggregating various agricultural machines. A comparative analysis of the obtained values of the CO2 equivalent of the carbon footprint of tractors of domestic production and foreign manufacturers was given. They showed the prospect of reducing the carbon footprint from the operation of tractors using gas-engine fuel. (Conclusions) The smallest carbon footprint is created by MTZ tractors and Deutz-Fahr, the largest by Claas, Fendt and John Deere. Gas-engine versions of tractors of JSC "RariTEK Holding" based on tractors of JSC "MTZ" are promising. Of the foreign developments, the most famous are New Holland tractors, on which biomethane, compressed or liquefied natural gas can be used as fuel.
