English
A critical review comparing African and European evidence to assess agricultural decarbonization pathways and their transferability to Morocco. National inventory data show 18.51 Mt CO2e agricultural emissions in 2022, with enteric fermentation and soils accounting for ~92%. Opportunities exist in nitrogen-water management, solar irrigation, process efficiency and residue valorisation, but heterogeneous methods and boundaries prevent a national mitigation estimate. The authors stress distinguishing measured outcomes from modelled potentials and call for representative field measurements and consistent GHG accounting.

In the global GX context
As ISSB/CSRD push Scope 3 and land-sector accounting into corporate disclosure, this review's emphasis on separating measured from modelled mitigation and on consistent GHG accounting speaks directly to the credibility gap in agricultural emissions reporting. It also illustrates how transferability of mitigation pathways depends on monitoring infrastructure, a theme relevant to transition finance in emerging markets.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Decarbonizing agricultural and agri-food systems in Morocco requires mitigation strategies adapted to water scarcity and diverse production conditions. This critical narrative review synthesizes scientific and institutional evidence, using African and European literature to assess mitigation pathways and their transferability to Morocco. National inventory data report agricultural emissions of 18.51 Mt CO 2 -equivalent in 2022, with enteric fermentation and agricultural soils accounting for approximately 92% of the total. Moroccan studies identify opportunities in coordinated nitrogen-water management, photovoltaic irrigation, process efficiency and residue valorisation, but heterogeneous methods and assessment boundaries prevent aggregation into a national mitigation estimate. Comparative evidence shows that soil-carbon gains require verification over time and depth, biogas benefits depend on methane leakage control, and renewable pumping requires groundwater safeguards. Transferability is assessed qualitatively across technical, financial, social, institutional and monitoring dimensions. The synthesis highlights the need to distinguish measured outcomes from modelled potentials, equipment deployment and policy commitments. Morocco’s updated climate framework and regional monitoring initiatives provide foundations for implementation, while representative field measurements and consistent greenhouse gas accounting remain necessary to establish verified mitigation outcomes.
