📄 Abstract(原文)
This chapter explores the evolution of Spain’s electricity sector, focusing on the two energy sources that have generated the greatest expectations in the 20th and 21st centuries: nuclear power and renewables. It examines Spain’s commitment to nuclear energy, not only as a response to projected demand growth but also as a strategy for advancing the country’s industrial and scientific-technological modernization, as well as its integration into the international arena. The programme, led by the state but with significant private sector involvement, ultimately entailed high economic costs and sustained dependence on foreign technology and financing. Nevertheless, it had a strong transformative impact on the domestic industrial fabric, which managed to adapt and reinvent itself following the nuclear moratorium of the 1980s. This chapter concludes by drawing parallels between the historical trajectory of nuclear energy and the current boom in renewables, warning of the risk of repeating past mistakes: inadequate planning, external dependence and shortcomings in transparency and public participation.
