📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Adds a Southern-European perspective on geothermal deployment barriers (scientific, economic, regulatory, social) relevant to global energy-transition and decarbonization debates. The emphasis on cascading heat use and thermal facilities offers a replicable model for integrating renewables into existing infrastructure.

📄 Abstract(原文)

This scientific and technical keynote speech, delivered on 19 May 2026 as part of the Madrid ThermEcoWat Workshop , provides a comprehensive overview of the historical evolution, geoscientific foundations, utilization technologies, and development prospects of geothermal energy. The presentation begins by examining the earliest uses of Earth's natural heat by different civilizations, highlighting the role of thermal waters in hygiene, healthcare, and social activities, before tracing the subsequent industrial and energy-related development of modern geothermal technologies. It then introduces the fundamental physical and geological principles underlying geothermal energy, including the origin of Earth's internal heat, the geothermal gradient, geothermal heat flow, and the thermal properties of subsurface materials. Technologies for harnessing geothermal resources across different temperature ranges are examined, encompassing both direct thermal applications and electricity generation, alongside examples of geothermal installations worldwide and an overview of the geothermal energy landscape in Spain. The presentation also explores the potential contribution of geothermal energy to the energy transition, decarbonization, energy security, and regional development, while addressing the scientific, economic, regulatory, and social factors influencing its deployment. Emerging advanced geothermal technologies are introduced, including enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), innovative drilling techniques, and applications of artificial intelligence. Particular attention is ultimately devoted to opportunities for integrating geothermal energy into spas and thermal facilities through cascading heat utilization, geothermal heat pumps, heat recovery, and energy efficiency improvement strategies. Practical examples are presented, together with considerations regarding the Spanish regulatory framework governing mineral and thermal waters.  The document brings together illustrative materials, technical diagrams, practical applications, and bibliographic references, serving as an educational and technical resource for professionals, researchers, students, and stakeholders interested in the sustainable utilization of geothermal energy.
