English
This chapter uses the Asturias H₂ Valley project in Spain as a case study for applying circular economy principles to renewable hydrogen production. By repurposing coal-fired power plant infrastructure, it achieves environmental benefits (CO2 reduction, lower water use) and financial benefits (faster permitting, reduced investment costs) that are deeply interconnected. The study shows how circularity strategies enhance project feasibility and support EU hydrogen valley objectives.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
This case study provides practical evidence for the EU's hydrogen valley strategy, demonstrating how circular economy principles can accelerate project deployment and improve bankability. It offers a model for other regions seeking to repurpose fossil-fuel infrastructure for clean hydrogen while supporting just transition goals.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This chapter examines the Asturias H₂ Valley project as a case study in applying circular economy principles to renewable hydrogen production. Located at the Aboño power plant in Spain, the project demonstrates how repurposing existing industrial infrastructure from a coal-fired power plant achieves significant environmental and financial benefits. The analysis frames these benefits as deeply interconnected rather than independent systems: environmental advantages such as CO₂ emission reductions and lower water consumption unlock access to public investment schemes, while administrative efficiencies derived from circular economy principles reduce permitting times and investment costs. Legal circularity mechanisms facilitate water concessions and accelerate permitting processes. This project exemplifies how circular economy strategies enhance project feasibility while supporting Spain&s;s Just Transition framework and broader EU hydrogen valley objectives.
