English

A three-generation heat-integration framework evaluates thermal, electrical, and cooling demands of amine-based CO2 capture. Three-stage overhead gas recompression cuts reboiler duty to 1.78–1.81 GJ/t at COP 6.86–7.51, while adding lean vapor recompression reaches 1.46–1.60 GJ/t but raises compression work. Equivalent-work analysis shows deeper recovery can increase total energy demand, underscoring the need to align solvent design with heat recovery.

In the global GX context

As CCUS scales under net-zero pathways and transition finance, capture energy penalties directly drive levelized cost and bankability. This process-level heat-integration and utility-cost analysis informs engineering design and cost assumptions used in climate-transition investment cases.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Absorption-based carbon capture is technically mature, but its coupled heat, electricity, and cooling demands remain a major deployment barrier. This work develops a three-generation framework based on heat-recovery mechanism, temperature lifting, and integration boundary. Representative first- and second-generation configurations are evaluated. Comparisons using 30–40 wt% monoethanolamine at 90% CO 2 capture, with product-compression cases are evaluated at a final dry-CO 2 pressure of 24.6 bar. The selected first-generation configurations give reboiler duties of 2.73–3.33 GJ∙t −1 . Three-stage overhead gas recompression (OGR) gives 1.78–1.81 GJ∙t −1 at 53.2–54.2 kWh∙t −1 of additional compression work, with a process-level reference-based coefficient of performance (COP) of 6.86–7.51. Combining OGR with lean vapor recompression (LVR) at 0.3 bar lowers reboiler duty to 1.46–1.60 GJ∙t⁻¹ but requires 111.5–143.5 kWh∙t −1 . Equivalent-work analysis shows that deeper recovery can increase combined thermal and mechanical requirements. Thermal interactions produce non-additive savings, while greater solvent concentration does not consistently lower integrated reboiler duty. These findings motivate solvent design targeting lower intrinsic regeneration requirements through amine chemistry, with water content matched to heat recovery. Among four evaluated 30 wt% configurations, three-stage OGR has the lowest annual utility cost of 82.57 million USD under the assumed prices. Combining 1.2 bar LVR with one-stage OGR reduces estimated incremental capital by 19.7% relative to three-stage OGR, with an annual utility-cost increase of 1.30 million USD. Process integration will play a relatively significant role in terms of energy consumption while absorbent should more focus on the stability.
