This paper analyzes the current state of Japan's Type III environmental label program "EcoLeaf" and discusses its future prospects. EcoLeaf discloses comprehensive environmental information across a product's life cycle and is used for corporate environmental communication. Future challenges include international harmonization and expansion to small and medium-sized enterprises.

In the global GX context

This study contributes to the global discussion on environmental labeling and product-level disclosure. While Type III labels are standardized under ISO 14025, the Japanese EcoLeaf program offers insights into national implementation and stakeholder engagement. Findings may inform similar schemes in other countries.
