English
Using a unique micro dataset on households and firms, the authors embed NGFS scenarios and macro projections into a central bank risk framework to estimate climate transition risk on bank loan portfolios. A smooth transition yields minimal credit losses, while an uneven transition can produce losses exceeding worst-case non-climate scenarios. Results are sensitive to energy prices and defaults in emission-intensive sectors, offering lessons for bank-based, emission-intensive small open economies like Slovakia.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
This paper operationalizes NGFS scenarios within supervisory risk assessment, directly relevant to TCFD/ISSB-aligned climate risk disclosure and transition finance debates. It shows that transition-path assumptions—not just end-states—drive credit loss estimates, a key methodological point for banks and regulators building scenario analysis capacity under CSRD/ISSB regimes.

📄 Abstract(原文)
We use a unique micro dataset on households and non-financial corporations to assess the impact of climate transition risks on banks’ loan portfolios. We estimate this effect by incorporating scenarios and macroeconomic projections from the Network for Greening the Financial System into the central bank’s risk assessment framework. We find that a smooth transition away from emission-intensive sectors results in minimal credit losses for banks. In contrast, an uneven transition can lead to significantly higher losses, sometimes exceeding those from worst-case non-climate scenarios. The results are sensitive to rising energy prices and increased default rates in emission-intensive sectors. These findings provide valuable insights for small, open, and emission-intensive economies with bank-based financial sectors, such as Slovakia.
