This thesis examines integrating Scope 3 Category 1 (purchased goods and services) CO2e reduction into procurement via a comparative case study in a cloud/data/software firm. It evaluates four emissions calculation methods, revealing trade-offs between scalability and accuracy. Governance, contractual leverage, and data standardization are identified as key enablers. A pragmatic framework linking emissions accounting to procurement decisions is proposed.

In the global GX context
With ISSB/CSRD requiring Scope 3 disclosure, this research offers a practical framework for integrating supplier emissions into procurement. It addresses the challenge of data scarcity and methodological variation, providing insights for global firms in digital sectors. The comparative case study approach adds empirical evidence to the discourse on supply chain decarbonization.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This thesis investigates how CO₂e reduction strategies can be systematically integrated into procurement processes through structured collaboration with suppliers in a company operating in the cloud, data, and enterprise software services sector. The research focuses on Scope 3 Category 1 emissions, purchased goods and services, which typically represent a substantial share of total corporate emissions in digital service-oriented business models. As organizations increasingly rely on external software and cloud providers, addressing these indirect emissions has become a critical component of corporate decarbonization strategies. Methodologically, the study adopts a comparative case study design to evaluate four different emissions calculation approaches applicable to procurement contexts. Given the limited availability of granular supplier emissions data, qualitative interviews were con-ducted to assess the current maturity of emissions reporting, data availability, and practical implementation constraints. The findings demonstrate significant methodological variation between sector-average and supplier-specific approaches, revealing clear trade-offs between scalability, accuracy, and the level of supplier engagement required. The study also identifies governance mechanisms, contractual leverage, and data standardization as critical enablers for embedding decarbonization objectives into procurement practices. Overall, the thesis proposes a pragmatic integration framework that links emissions accounting methodologies with procurement decision-making to support organizations in operationalizing Scope 3 emissions reduction through structured supplier collaboration.
