English
This study examines how citizens' scientism beliefs differentially and non-linearly affect satisfaction with renewable and nuclear energy expansion policies. Scientism had no significant effect on renewable policy satisfaction, where ecological values (NEP) mattered positively; for nuclear, a marginally significant inverted-U relationship emerged, with satisfaction rising then falling as scientism becomes extreme due to cognitive dissonance. The authors urge policymakers to move beyond engineering-focused PR toward realistic expectation management and source-specific communication.

In the global GX context
Amid global debates over nuclear revival and renewable build-out under net-zero pathways, this paper adds public-acceptance evidence that technical framing alone does not secure legitimacy, relevant to just-transition and energy-policy communication scholarship beyond disclosure frameworks.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This study aims to examine the differential and non-linear effects of citizens’ scientism beliefs on their policy satisfaction regarding the expansion of renewable and nuclear energy. The analysis revealed that while scientism beliefs did not have a statistically significant effect on satisfaction with renewable energy expansion policies, ecological values such as the New Ecological Paradigm (NEP) showed a positive effect. This implies that citizens accept renewable energy policies not as a high-level technical task, but as a domain of realizing ecological values that emphasize climate change response and coexistence with nature. Conversely, a marginally significant inverted U-shaped non-linear relationship was identified between scientism beliefs and satisfaction with nuclear energy expansion policies. That is, while scientism orientation increases policy satisfaction up to a certain level through the utility of nuclear technology and trust in experts, exceeding the threshold where this belief becomes extreme leads individuals to experience cognitive dissonance (negative disconfirmation) in the politically charged policy implementation process, causing satisfaction to shift downward. These results suggest that when establishing national energy transition policies, policymakers must move away from one-dimensional PR that only emphasizes engineering integrity, and instead implement essential strategies such as “realistic expectation management”—proactively communicating through official media channels that conflict resolution processes are inevitable—alongside tailored communication strategies for each energy source.
