Using Chinese A-share firms 2001–2023, this study examines how the link between digital transformation and corporate energy resilience varies with energy efficiency. The interaction is positive and significant: digitalization lowers resilience at low efficiency, is neutral near the mean, and raises it at high efficiency. Technological innovation and green transition are candidate channels, with stronger effects in capital- and technology-intensive firms.

📄 Abstract(原文)
Under the dual constraints of energy security and the “dual carbon” goals, the relationship between corporate energy efficiency and energy security has become increasingly important. This study uses Chinese A-share listed firms from 2001 to 2023 to examine how the relationship between digital transformation and corporate energy resilience varies with firms’ energy efficiency. Corporate energy resilience is operationalized through an inventory-based measure of material buffering capacity, supplemented by price-adjusted and electricity-rationing validation tests. The results show that the interaction between digital transformation and energy efficiency is positive and statistically significant. Marginal-effect analysis further indicates that digital transformation is negatively associated with corporate energy resilience at relatively low levels of energy efficiency, statistically insignificant around the sample mean, and positively associated with resilience at relatively high levels of energy efficiency. Bootstrap tests based on 5,000 firm-level replications identify technological innovation and green transition as statistically significant potential indirect transmission channels. Formal cross-group tests show no statistically significant differences in the interaction effect across ownership or pollution-status groups, whereas the interaction effect is significantly stronger in capital- and technology-intensive firms than in labor-intensive firms. These findings highlight energy efficiency as an important boundary condition shaping the resilience implications of corporate digitalization and provide firm-level evidence for coordinating digital transformation, energy-efficiency improvement, and energy security.
