English

Sustainable forest management under climate change requires protecting existing ecological assets, restoring degraded forests, and adaptive management as conditions shift. Forest area and tree growth alone are inadequate success metrics; biodiversity, soils, water regulation, and forest-dependent people must also be sustained. Drought, fire, pests, and land-use pressures interact, making carbon storage less predictable, so responses must be tailored to forest type and disturbance history with explicit attention to uncertainty.

In the global GX context

Forest carbon sinks underpin national net-zero targets and nature-related disclosure (TNFD), yet this review cautions against equating forest area or growth with climate benefit—relevant to how ISSB/TNFD reporting frames removals versus gross emissions.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Sustainable forest management under climate change requires protection of existing ecological assets, recovery of degraded forests, and management that can adjust as environmental conditions change. Forest area and tree growth alone are inadequate measures of success. Management must also sustain biodiversity, soils, water regulation, and the people who depend on forests. The literature supports a portfolio of responses tailored to forest type, disturbance history, and local objectives, with explicit attention to uncertainty and competing demands. Climate change affects forests through physiological stress, altered regeneration, and changes in disturbance regimes. Drought, fire, pests, and land-use pressures can interact, making forest recovery and carbon storage less predictable. Nevertheless, responses differ among regions, and global averages can conceal both deterioration and recovery. Forest carbon uptake remains substantial, but it should not be confused with the net climate benefit after deforestation emissions and other effects are considered. The management implications are conditional. Natural regeneration is valuable where recovery processes remain functional; planting and other interventions become more important where those processes are constrained. Fuel treatments can reduce subsequent wildfire severity in particular forest systems, but evidence from those systems does not justify indiscriminate treatment elsewhere. Community involvement can improve outcomes, yet participation alone does not guarantee equitable benefits. Decisions therefore need ecological diagnosis, secure and legitimate governance, long-term monitoring, and revision when outcomes diverge from expectations.
