English

This paper examines integrating Lean and Agile ('Leagile') inventory paradigms within sustainable supply chains. Using mixed-methods dynamic modeling, it evaluates trade-offs among inventory holding costs, stockout risk, and life-cycle environmental impacts across multi-tier networks. A decoupled framework with push-pull points, IoT visibility, and predictive analytics is shown to cut Scope 3 emissions while preserving resilience and service levels during demand surges.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters

In the global GX context

Scope 3 emissions dominate corporate footprints under CSRD, ISSB, and TCFD-aligned disclosure, making inventory and supply-chain design a lever for climate targets. The paper links operational inventory strategy to Scope 3 accounting, offering a decision framework relevant to global disclosure and transition planning.

📄 Abstract(原文)

The rapid evolution of global supply chains demands a delicate synthesis of efficiency, responsiveness, and environmental responsibility. This paper examines the strategic integration of Lean and Agile inventory paradigms collectively framed as Leagile management within next-generation sustainable supply chains. While Lean strategies prioritize waste elimination and cost efficiency through just-in-time practices, Agile strategies emphasize flexibility and rapid adaptation to demand volatility. However, operating either strategy in isolation often creates systemic friction, particularly under strict carbon footprint regulations and heightened environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.Using a mixed-methods dynamic modeling framework, this study evaluates the structural trade-offs between inventory holding costs, stockout risks, and life-cycle environmental impacts across multi-tier network structures. We propose a decoupled inventory framework that uses strategic push-pull decoupling points, real-time IoT visibility, and predictive analytics to determine optimal reorder thresholds and safety stock buffers dynamically. The findings demonstrate that a hybrid Leagile inventory strategy significantly reduces scope 3 carbon emissions while preserving operational resilience and service levels during demand surge events. Ultimately, this research offers a practical decision-making framework for supply chain directors to align inventory optimization models with broader corporate sustainability mandates.
