Abstract For more than a century, the modern oil and gas industry has contributed to the energy supply and has offered products that have facilitated ground, air, and water transportation, the food industry, information technology, health, and many other industries. A concern with the use of hydrocarbons has been the generation of CO2, which may contribute to global warming and pollution associated with their use. In response to consumers’ major concerns, the industry has actively sought solutions to decarbonize oil and gas use. This paper reviews progress in decarbonization.
