English

A survey-based study of urban UAE residents' attitudes toward and barriers to household renewable energy adoption, including rooftop solar. It examines how environmental awareness, installation and maintenance costs, government incentives, access, and confidence in long-term performance shape willingness to invest, alongside demographic and household economic factors. Findings aim to inform awareness programs, financing options, and incentive schemes for inclusive residential energy transition.

In the global GX context

While focused on the UAE, the study's framing of household-level barriers—cost, incentives, trust, access—resonates with global debates on just transition and residential decarbonization, offering comparative evidence for countries designing subsidy and financing schemes to meet national climate targets.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Renewable energy as a means to sustainable urban development has become a major aspect of the UAE. The country has been spending more on renewable energy solutions, but the transition to renewable energy in households continues to face the following obstacles due to public perception, financial considerations, technology understanding, and access. The present study is an analysis of the attitudes of the urban dwellers regarding the implementation of renewable energy and the major barriers which can affect the acceptance of renewable energy in larger scale. Emphasis on residents' knowledge of renewable energy technologies, perceptions of environmental benefits, installation and maintenance costs, government incentives, access, and confidence in long-term performance. The study also examines the factors that might impact willingness to invest in renewable energy solutions, including rooftop solar power systems, based on demographic and household economic conditions. Data can be collected from residents from selected urban areas in UAE by using a structured questionnaire-based survey and then appropriate statistical analysis can be done to identify the prevalent perception and adoption challenges. The results are likely to shed light on the linkages among environmental awareness, feasibility, institutional support and household adoption intentions. An awareness of these factors can assist in creating policy awareness programs, financing options, and incentive schemes. The purpose of the study is to help overcome the practical and perceptual challenges that households experience in establishing a more inclusive and sustainable residential energy system in the UAE.
