In the global GX context

This paper provides a simple field-based carbon estimation method applicable to tropical savannas, relevant to nature-based solutions (NbS) and REDD+ accounting. While not directly tied to corporate disclosure frameworks like TCFD/ISSB, it supports the quantification of terrestrial carbon stocks critical for climate mitigation.

📄 Abstract(原文)

Global climate change has increased the need for efficient methodologies to quantify carbon stored in forest ecosystems. The Brazilian Cerrado stands out for its ecological relevance and high carbon storage capacity, although it faces significant anthropogenic pressure. This study proposed an alternative approach to estimate carbon in typical cerrado using the Carbon Ratio Index (CRI). Data were collected in a 26.9 ha fragment in Diamantina, Minas Gerais, Brazil, using eight randomly distributed plots of 600 m² (20 × 30 m). All stems with circumference at breast height ≥ 15.7 cm were measured. The CRI was defined as the ratio between woody carbon stock and the volume of a cylinder based on basal area at breast height and total height, analogous to the form factor used in forest mensuration. A total of 531 stems were recorded, with DBH ranging from 5.1 to 22.4 cm and total height from 1.7 to 7.5 m. The mean CRI was 0.24 ton m⁻³ (± 0.0310). Carbon estimates did not differ significantly from the reference allometric equation. The results indicate that the CRI performs similarly to traditional allometric equations, showing potential as a non-destructive, practical, and low-cost method for estimating carbon stocks in stems of typical Cerrado.
