English
ALROSA reports achieving carbon neutrality solely through its own operations using enhanced mineral weathering of tailings to capture atmospheric CO2 at its Yakutia and Arkhangelsk processing plants. Based on 2025 data, the final product's carbon footprint reached −1.18 t CO2eq per carat, demonstrating a negative carbon footprint at industrial scale without external offsets.

📝 gxceed 編集解説 — Why this matters
In the global GX context
This case adds to global disclosure scholarship by showing how industrial carbon removal can be embedded in product-level carbon footprint accounting, relevant to ISSB/CSRD discussions on negative emissions and Scope 1/2 reporting integrity.

📄 Abstract(原文)
This article examines the results of the ALROSA Group’s efforts to achieve carbon neutrality. The application of novel enhanced mineral weathering technologies has enabled greenhouse gas emissions to be offset through spontaneous CO2 uptake from tailings storage facilities. Russia’s first climate project of this kind has been implemented, focus ing on atmospheric carbon dioxide removal via enhanced weathering and CO2 capture during ore beneficiation and subsequent storage of processing waste in tailings ponds. The results obtained from applying the developed technology at the Aikhal and Udachny Mining and Processing Plants in Yakutia and the Lomonosov Mining and Processing Plant in the Arkhangelsk Region confirm that a negative carbon footprint of the final product has been achieved. For the first time in international practice, an industrial enterprise has attained carbon neutrality exclusively through its own operations, without relying on external offset mechanisms. Based on 2025 performance data, the final product’s carbon footprint was recorded at–1.18 t CO2eq per carat.
