This dataset contains the plant-level spatial data, optimisation model, source code and scenario outputs supporting the study “Carbon capture and storage first, hydrogen later: a staged technological succession in China’s steel transition”. It includes data for all 368 steel plants in China, green-hydrogen production and accessibility, CO₂ storage resources and source–sink distances, technology and infrastructure parameters, carbon-trading scenarios, and model results for production-route transitions, hydrogen use, CO₂ capture, emissions, allowance trading and plant-level economic outcomes.
